All that is left to do now is clean up the boarder and fix a few minor spots, then put my signature at the bottom.
Sofia wip2
Now you can see the rest of Sofia’s body is a little more defined. This picture came out kind of dark. I was indoors and the only light source was the floor lamp and ceiling light. The next step will be to begin adding pale undertone colors to the areas of the fur that will be the part of the fur that has highlights. This will be a very thin layer of color I will dilute down with water. Acrylic behaves a lot like watercolor this way and it is great for building up colors so that they appear to have depth.
Sofia (work in progress 1)
This will be an acrylic painting. Right now I have just sketched in the basic shape of the dog lying on some grass, and am just starting to go back over and add in the details in pencil. I am spending a bit more energy on the preliminary sketch for two reasons: first, mapping out the direction of Sofia’s fur now is going to making things a lot easier on me later when I start to add color. Second, Sofia is a black dog. The graphite pencil sketch will blend right into her fur color.
Jazzy and B (wip3)
It has been a while but a am finally back home and able to access a scanner. So I have scanned the progress I have made on Jazzy and B’s graphite portrait. Jazzy is almost finished. I just need to darken it a bit and then start working on adding detail to B.
Bella and Vino (wip4)
As promised, here is more work I have completed on the background.
The next step is to deepen the shadows which will add a lot of contrast to the leaves of the grapes vines behind the two dogs. I will also work on adding detail to the foreground. I generally like to finish as much of the background as I can before working on the main subjects. To me this helps “put them into the painting”. As I work on them later, I will have a more accurate idea of light and shadow.
Apologies for the cell phone picture again. I am still away from home without a good camera. I just want to post an update as to where I am.
Bella and Vino (wip3)
I am away from home right now but have taken my “art studio” with me to keep up progress while I am away. Unfortunately, I did not bring my nice camera to take progress photos. For one, I didn’t plan on being gone this long, so I have had to improvise. This photo below was taken from my cell phone so the quality of the picture is not so good.
I am beginning to add background color now, but it is only the first wash/under-painting. I will come back and add more detail later. Tomorrow I will probably have a new photo to add with the background completely filled in and some detail added.
